Make a day of it: caloundra with tim birch
here’s a few extra things you can do when you visit caloundra for Horizon festival.
There are a few events in Caloundra this year. There’s The Sinkers, Open Air: Cloe Terare, and the Sunshine Coast Art Prize. So, to make your trip worth it, we asked local photographer (and Tour Guide) Tim Birch to show us around his hometown.
Here’s how Tim would spend the day in Caloundra.
Sub Tropic Studio
Such a nice cool place to call ‘work’. Great creative community and is a place I can really hone in on my personal projects. If you’re ever in town on the Friday that Good Chats occurs, this is definitely worth checking out. It’s a monthly meet-up where a couple of creatives tell their creative story. There’s also free coffee from Slide Coffee.
Slide Coffee
If you need a coffee when you’re in town, be sure to try Slide. Super friendly crew and masters of specialty coffee. I’ll be there daily for meetings, batch brews and the odd cookie.
Beach Beat / Unkle Hingys Barber Shop
There aren’t many places you can get a haircut and walk out with a new surf board in the one go but I’ve done it a few times here. There is a board for everyone in there and Unkle Hingy is great at what he does with the snips.
Angry Bakers
Award winning pies. Try the chicken curry pie.
Raw + rice
I know I just had a pie. But if you feel like something a little healthier, Raw + Rice is the spot.
King’s Beach
This is a great beach to come to if you’re looking to kill a little time. I’ve been surfing here since I was a kid. So many great memories and always a little wave about.
King’s Beach bar
The closest post-surf hydration bar to the ocean who have a epic food menu.
